Discovering Your Natural Talents Workshop Video Series

The Hebrew word "chokmah" literally means "know how" or "knack." It's the primary word for wisdom and it's used 146 times.

Solomon talked about the importance of "knowing your knack" and developing it in Proverbs 1: 1-7. "To know wisdom (your knack) and instruction, to discern the sayings of understanding, to receive instruction in wise (prudent) behavior, righteousness, justice and equity; to give prudence to the naive, to the youth knowledge and discretion, a wise (know your knack) man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise (prudent) counsel, to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise (those with the knack of wisdom) and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom (their knack) and instruction."

According to this passage wisdom means "the wise ones are those who develop their God given talents and become skillful." Skillful means "wise of heart." Long before the Holy Spirit gave us our spiritual gifts, God gave us knowledge, wisdom and skill. (Gen. 35:30-36:2) These verses teach an overlooked concept: "Gain knowledge and become wise by developing your God given know how or knack." Do you want your people to become wise? Help them discover their "know how" and encourage them to master it.

"And you shall speak to all the skillful (wise) persons whom I have endowed with the spirit of wisdom (knack)..." (Ex. 28-3a) The wise ones were those who became excellent at their "knack." And it will be the "wise ones" who are honored. "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men." (Prov. 22:29) Masters of their craft will be honored by God.

What would happen if most of the people in your church developed their God given "knack" to the A+ level of achievement? What would happen if they became biblically wise? Workers would be energized in their serving. Burnout would cease to be a problem. Ministries would be created. People would thrive. And as the Canon of Scripture came together through validation, spiritual gifts would surface and be validated through the expression of wisdom.

Have you used "spiritual gift inventories" in the past? Let me ask you another question. If you gave the test to a non-Christian would the results change? Admit it. The answer is no. Since spiritual gifts are given with spiritual birth, if that inventory is just as effective with non-believers as it is with believers, you haven't been measuring spiritual gifts. You've been measuring natural talents. Why not do it properly?

How should elders be selected? They surface and are validated with time. How did the canon come together? The books that worked were validated over time. How are spiritual gifts determined? They'll surface, if a person is ministering in his or her area of wisdom. In other words, pursue wisdom (develop your knack), and spiritual gifts will take care of themselves. I'd like to help your church pursue wisdom with a wisdom workshop.

Most working and ministering people don't know their niche, aren't energized by what they do, and long for retirement to escape work and ministry. So many are wondering what they will do when they grow up, and they are still asking that question in mid-life. Homemakers are wondering what they are going to do when the kids leave home. And pastor, what roles should each of your people play in the church? Should they fit a slot, or should a slot be created to fit them? The Developing Your Natural Talents (Wisdom) Workshop is an experience that will help resolve many of these issues.

Do you want your people to be wise? Help them discover their "know how" and master it. What if they don't know their "know how?" In the video series, I'll help them discover their natural talents and develop their wisdom so they can find their niche.

I'm a former NBA player with the L.A.
